Lansing City Pulse:

WKAR was in the hole $635,000 at the end of the 2010 fiscal year, records provided by Michigan State University show. The broadcast operation laid off 10 people last month as part of a reorganization effort, they also show. The university had refused to give a specific number previously. The information came from documents the university provided after City Pulse filed a Freedom of Information Act request.

Fox Sports Detroit schedules 73 Red Wings games for 2011-12

FOX Sports Detroit will televise 70 regular-season games and three preseason contests during its coverage of the 2011-12 Detroit Red Wings, all in high-definition.Regular-season coverage begins Oct. 7 in the season/home opener against the Ottawa Senators. The preseason schedule begins Sept. 25 when Detroit hosts the Chicago Blackhawks.

Beyond the 70 games airing on FOX Sports Detroit (or FOX Sports Detroit PLUS), the remaining 12 will be televised exclusively on a national basis by Versus or NBC.

Calling the action again for FOX Sports Detroit will be the award-winning duo of Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond. Former Red Wings defenseman and Hockey Hall of Famer Larry Murphy substitutes for Redmond during select road games and is part of home game coverage on most nights from his "between the benches" reporting position.

Daniels is this year's recipient of the Ty Tyson Excellence in Sports Broadcasting Award as presented by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, and is the reigning Michigan Sportscaster of the Year from the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. Meanwhile, Redmond is the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Foster Hewitt Memorial Award as presented by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, to be awarded Nov. 14 as part of the Hockey Hall of Fame ceremonies in Toronto.

FOX Sports Detroit's comprehensive coverage includes pregame and postgame editions of Red Wings Live. New this season, most game nights will include bonus postgame coverage on Red Wings Live O.T.

The 2011-12 season also includes the return of the Emmy-winning show Wingspan (debuting Oct. 14-15), providing entertaining features about the team on and off the ice.

In the dates leading up to and including the first two games of the regular-season, FOX Sports Detroit will presents a series of special attractions as part of "Red Wings Premiere Week", featuring encore airings of exciting victories from last spring's playoffs as well as a regular season game featuring Nicklas Lidstrom's first career hat trick. Premiere Week also includes the half-hour Red Wings Season Preview.

Grand Rapids Press:

Former radio personality Scott Winters is working in the media again, but not the role one might expect. WOOD TV-8 General manager Diane Kniowski, said the station hired Winters as a digital sales specialist.
