But in Detroit, an urban symbol of the American recession, it is almost impossible, some journalists argue, to report local news in the dispassionate form taught by J-school textbooks. "I absolutely think we have a responsibility to show people in Detroit -- and beyond -- what positive things the city has to offer," said Lisa Ray, the managing editor at NBC affiliate WDIV, whose Web site, ClickOnDetroit.com, is the most popular online news source in the market.

Veteran radio manager exits with Cumulus-Citadel merger

Matt Hanlon, a vice president with Citadel that had been overseeing that company's clusters in Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Flint, has exited with the recent completion of the merger of Cumulus and Citadel. Hanlon was a public face of Citadel, especially in the Grand Rapids market, where he made several station format and personnel changes that drew the ire of local radio watchers.

Tomorrow marks one month since LIN-owned stations in seven markets went dark for Mediacom subscribers, and the stalemate is showing no signs of progress. A uniform statement on the LIN-owned stations' sites says negotiations are ongoing.
