George Blaha was in the Spartan Stadium stands for the 1966 "Game of the Century" between Notre Dame and Michigan State - cheering for the Fighting Irish just months after earning a Notre Dame economics degree. Two years later, he had a master's in business administration from Michigan. Three years after that, he found his true career passion and his true college football love. These affairs have lasted 40 years, with many more planned.

Dayton and Wyoming were the two schools showing the most interest in East Lansing High offensive tackle Jim Brandstatter. Michigan State - where his father was an All-American and his brother played - wasn't showing much. "That was OK," Brandstatter said. "So be it." Then, Brandstatter had a strong game at Ann Arbor Pioneer, against a defensive end Michigan was recruiting. U-M began to recruit Brandstatter.

Early TV ratings for the Lions' 24-13 win Monday over the Bears at Ford Field made ESPN's "Monday Night Football" the second-best rated game of the year for the network, the Hollywood Reporter reported Tuesday ... Baseball also drew strong ratings Monday in Detroit as the Tigers squared off against the Rangers for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series. The Tigers' 7-3 loss at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington drew a 26.4 rating and 45 share in Detroit, good for No.1 for its time slot...
