Fox Sports Detroit unveils 'April in the D' winner
Detroit-area band B-Dab has been voted the grand prize winner of FOX Sports Detroit's April in the D song contest for 2011. Their tune will be used to promote April in the D, FOX Sports Detroit's fourth annual month-long campaign to celebrate the city's passion for sports and the welcomed arrival of springtime. April in the D programming is highlighted by approximately 40 telecasts among the Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings.
Following a month-long call for entries, the network trimmed a field of 50 submitted music videos down to 20. A guest panel comprised of local music experts (including Kid Rock) and pro team representatives determined 10 semifinalists. Then, an initial round of fan voting at Foxsportsdetroit.com pared the survivors down to three finalists. A final period of online voting resulted in B-Dab finishing ahead of runners-up Panic Trigger and Johnny Lawrence.
B-Dab wins $5,000 and a live performance at The Fillmore in downtown Detroit on April 8, prior to the Tigers' home opener, in addition to having its song used as this year's April in the D theme in on-air promos running on FOX Sports Detroit. B-Dab was a runner-up in the 2010 contest.
"B-DAB is proud to be this year's April in the D winner. Thanks to all who voted for us, and to Fox Sports Detroit for supporting local music," said Steven Foster, lead singer for B-Dab. "We're a Michigan band with love and respect for Detroit and its many contributions to the world. We'll see you at a B-Dab show!"
All three of the finalists receive a professional recording session valued at $1,000 and will perform live as part of the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers' Cruze In, Rock Out Concert Series - a series of 10 shows prior to select Friday night Tigers games at the FOX Sports Detroit Brushfire Grill at Comerica Park.
"April in the D continues to grow in popularity each year and the competition for the song contest continues to get stronger every year. It's gratifying to see new bands enter the contest and fun to see many bands return year after year," said Greg Hammaren, Senior Vice President/General Manager, FOX Sports Detroit. "Music and Detroit sports go hand-in-hand and we'll continue to showcase both for years to come. Congratulations to B-Dab and thanks to all the bands that entered this year. Fans are going to love our music this month."
The entire field of 50 entries is included in a half-hour program, April in the D: The Playlist Show '11, premiering April 2 at 6:00 & 10:00 p.m. and repeated throughout the month on FOX Sports Detroit.
