Northern Michigan / UP: October 2011 Archives

Recent news reports that Madonna's brother Anthony Ciccone is homeless in Traverse City has not only drawn national attention to the issue of the homeless in the Northern Michigan resort town, but now also opened the door to controversy for hits radio station WKHQ-FM 105.9. A Facebook group has popped up protesting a promotion being run by 'KHQ offering a $200 'bounty' to anyone that can get Anthony Ciccone to visit the station's Williamsburg studios during business hours.

The station's 'Josh and Heather' morning show defended itself on-air yesterday morning, claiming the idea behind luring Ciccone to the MacDonald-Garber owned station isn't simply to yuk it up on the air, but to provide real assistance as the northern Michigan winter rapidly approaches. A podcast of that conversation between the show's hosts and listeners can be heard on the station's web site.

Update on 10/27: The creator of the Facebook group has since removed it.
