• Calvary Radio Network is purchasing the silent WTNP-FM 91.9 Richland from Horizon Christian Fellowship for $75,000 pending FCC approval and closing. Calvary also owns/operates religious WQKO-FM 91.9 Howe, IN.

 

 

• The FCC approved the sale of the construction permit for WSPB FM 89.7 Bedford (Battle Creek area) to Catholic Radio Network from Holy Family Oratory of St. Philip Neri. Sale price was $1000.

 

• Nexstar Broadcasting is acquiring WJMN-TV Ch. 3 Escanaba along with WFRV-TV Ch. 5 Green Bay, WI from Liberty Media for $20 million pending FCC approvals and closing.

 

 

• Tribune Broadcasting FOX affiliate WXMI-TV Ch. 17 Grand Rapids was granted a construction permit increase its post-transition digital facilities from 725,000 watts @ 1004 feet to 750,000 watts @ 1096 feet.

 

• No notable activity for May 3.

 

 

• Meredith Broadcasting CBS affiliate WNEM-TV Ch. 5 Bay City was granted its license to cover for post-transition digital facilities. The station operates with 1,000,000 watts @ 903 feet with a directional antenna.

 

 

 

• Lilly Broadcasting ABC affiliate WJRT-TV Ch. 12 Flint was granted its license to cover to increase power from 18,200 to 30,000 watts.

 

• The FCC granted a construction permit for FM translator W239AX 95.7 Camden to change frequency to 95.5 as W238CD, increase power from 19 to 250 watts, and change location from north of Reading to south of Quincy. The translator is being sold by Family Stations to Midwest Communications which plans to rebroadast WTVB AM 1590 Coldwater on it.

 

• Community station WHPR-FM 88.1 Highland Park was granted its license to cover for minor changes to its location and power.

 

• The FCC granted a license to cover for the construction permit for classic rock WLJZ FM 94.5 Mackinaw City to modify its effective radiated power from 40,000 watts @ 381 feet to 50,000 watts @ 361 feet.

 

 

WXPZ FM 90.1 Clyde Twp (south of Saugatuck) was granted special temporary authority to broadcast from a temporary location. The station has been silent recently.

 

• The FCC approved the sale of FM translators W227AS 93.3 Whitehall, W243BD 96.5 Beechwood, and W277BB 103.3 Grand Haven from Horizon Christian Fellowship to First Ventures Capital Partners as part of a large transaction involving 73 translators across the country.

 

• No notable activity for May 9.

 

 

• Baraga Broadcasting Religious (Catholic) WTCY FM 88.3 Greilickville (Traverse City) was granted its license to cover. The station recent sign-on simulcasts WTCK FM 90.9 Charlevoix.

 

 

 

• A construction permit was granted to WKAR-FM 90.5 East Lansing to slightly change the station's effective radiated power as it will be replacing its broadcast tower. The new tower will be adjacent to the one in use for many years.

 

• No notable activity for May 12.

 

 

• Adult contemporary WGHN-FM 92.1 Grand Haven was granted a construction permit to change power from 3,000 watts @ 246 feet to 6,000 watts @ 213 feet.

 

• Catholic Radio Network closed on its purchase of the construction permit for WSPB FM 89.7 Bedford (Battle Creek area) from Holy Family Oratory.

 

• Gannett ABC affiliate WZZM-TV Ch. 13 Grand Rapids was granted its license to cover for a power increase from 16,500 to 24,500 watts.

 

 

• Roy E. Henderson (d.b.a. New Ulm Broadcasting Co.) was granted a construction permit for a new low power digital TV station to be licensed to Cadillac on Channel 35. W35DD-D would operate with 15,000 watts @ 1086 feet from southeast of Cadillac. This is Henderson's third digital LPTV construction permit in Northern Michigan.

 

• Analog LPTV station W33BY Ch. 33 Detroit has received special temporary authority to reduce power and relocate its broadcast location.

 

 

• Heritage Broadcasting CBS affiliate WWTV-TV Ch.9 Cadillac-Traverse City was granted its license to cover for an increase in power from 30,000 to 45,000 watts.

 

• FM translator W239AX 95.7 Camden was granted special temporary authority to remain silent. FCC records indicate the translator will be used by Midwest Communications to rebroadcast WTVB AM 1590 Coldwater and will be moving to FM 95.5.

 

• License to cover granted to FM translator W219DA 91.7 Paw Paw for its move to 102.5 as W273AR with an increase power to 250 watts, and physical move from near Paw Paw to Kalamazoo Township. The translator is being purchased by Cumulus Broadcasting.

 

 

• Christian Radio Friends is purchasing the construction permit for FM 88.5 Constantine (no call sign assigned) from Living Faith Fellowship and Outreach Ministries for $50,000, pending FCC approval and closing. Christian Radio Friends has requested an 18-month extension to the construction permit; it is set to expire in August.

 

• Grand Valley State University PBS affliate WGVU-TV Ch. 35 Grand Rapids was granted its license to cover for a change to its effective radiated power from 50,000 watts @ 781 feet to 41,500 watts @ 853 feet.

 

• Daystar LPTV station WUHQ-LP Ch. 29 Grand Rapids was granted a construction permit granted for a digital flash cut (station will switch from analog to digital and remain on Channel 29).

 

• Northern Radio talk WSRJ-FM 105.5 Honor was granted its license to cover for a power increase from 4,700 (Class A) to 17,000 watts (Class C3).

 

 

• MeTV affiliate WZMQ-TV Ch. 19 Marquette was granted its license to cover to change power to 31,000 watts @ 577 feet from 41,600 watts @ 814 feet. The station now broadcasts from a tower located closer to Ishpeming.

 

 

 

• TCT station WTLJ-TV Ch. 54 Muskegon was granted its license to cover for an increase in effective radiated power from 280,000 watts @ 922 feet to 310,000 watts @ 928 feet.

 

 

 

• Liberty Media CBS affiliate WJMN-TV Ch. 3 Escanaba was granted its license to cover for an increase its height from 1148 to 1165 feet. The station had been operating at reduced power due to storm damage and has is now broadcasting at its full post digital transition power.

 

 

 

• Storm damage on May 12th caused damage to the transmission facilities of WMKD-FM 105.5 Pickford and WYSS-FM 99.5 Sault Ste. Marie causing both stations to operate at reduced power while repairs are completed.

 

 

 

• Minority Media Telecommunications has closed on its acquisition of analog LPTV station W18BT Ch. 18 Alpena from Trinity Broadcasting. The station is currently not on-air.
