Central Michigan University's student-run radio station Modern Rock 91.5 WHMW-FM will rebrand itself, including a name change, in the fall 2012 semester. The station's new name, "Moore Rock Radio," has been approved for change on Oct. 1. The name was proposed by executive staff members to develop a new image and encompass a broader arrangement of music, and was announced at the Student Broadcast Executive Council's Feb. 23 meeting.

Tigers' longtime broadcaster Jim Price had his adrenal glands removed in a 41/2-hour procedure at Troy Beaumont Hospital in January.

WIDR Week will take on a more serious tone when the heart of the annual fundraising drive of the Western Michigan University student-run radio station kicks off on Sunday. WIDR General Manager Johanna Kelly said the station, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary in September, needs to raise around $20,000 through its series of events and on-air funding campaign.

When Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a "slut," he similarly attacked women like Auna Harris and Laura Woodbury, Calvin College students who believe contraception should be available under health plans. The pair were among a dozen protesters today who delivered letters to Clear Channel Communications' Grand Rapids offices.
