Sinclair Broadcasting continuing growth; $370 M purchase of Barrington Broadcasting involves a number of Michigan TV stations
Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which last year acquired Granite Broadcasting (which included WWMT-TV Ch. 3 Kalamazoo and WLAJ-TV Ch. 53 Lansing) is growing again with yesterday's announcement that it will be acquiring Barrington Broadcasting's 24 television stations in markets across the country for $370 million.
In Michigan, the sale involves Barrington's NBC affiliates WPBN-TV Ch. 7 / WTOM-TV Ch. 4 Traverse City / Cheboygan, WLUC-TV Ch. 6 Marquette, and WEYI-TV Ch. 25 Saginaw along with CW affiliate WBSF-TV Ch. 46 Bay City. Barrington also operates ABC affiliate WGTU-TV Ch. 29 / WGTQ-TV Ch. 8 Traverse City / Sault Ste Marie under a joint sales agreement with Tucker Broadcasting. In Northwest Ohio, Barrington owns NBC affilate WNWO-TV Ch. 24 Toledo.
In the Flint/Saginaw/Bay City market, Sinclair already owns/operates FOX affiliate WSHM-TV Ch. 66.
