Sault Ste. Marie radio listeners started hearing a new name on their favourite radio station this morning. At 8 a.m., the station formerly known as EZ Rock rebranded itself to Today's Best Music ... KiSS 100.5. KiSS 100.5 announced early in the summer that it would be looking for a new name, something fun and more reflective of the upbeat, contemporary music featured on the station from stars like P!nk, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Kelly Clarkson.

As the co-founder of radio station 89X and longtime columnist for Metro Times, Lex Kuhne has had a high media profile around Detroit for years. As an attorney, Kuhne runs a private practice, Alexander E. Kuhne PC, that focuses in part on entertainment law.

  • Resotred: CBS-owned stations WWJ-TV Ch. 62 (CBS) and WKBD-TV Ch. 50 (CW) to Bright House cable systems in Oakland and Wayne counties yesterday evening after being blacked out for a month during a retransmission dispute between CBS and Time Warner Cable (which negotiates for Bright House).

  • Cleveland public radio outlet WJCU will salute "CKLW 1970'' Saturday afternoon (Sept. 14) from 3:00 to 5:30 (Eastern Time). Listen online at wjcu.org.

  • Radio ratings company Arbitron has released its latest rankings of market sizes across the USA. The Detroit market has fallen once again, this time from the 11th largest to the 12th largest, dropping behind Miami-Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood, FL. Grand Rapids is now the 69th largest market in the rankings, Lansing-East Lansing 127th, Flint 135th, Ann Arbor 153rd, Kalamazoo 183rd, and Traverse City-Petoskey 196th.

Detroit News:

State Sen. Howard Walker's announcement last month that he won't seek re-election appears to have liberated the Traverse City Republican from having to tell potential voters what they want to hear. At an Emmet County Republican Women's luncheon Monday, Walker fielded a complaint from conservative radio host Brian Sommerfield about being one of eight Republicans who joined the Senate's 12 Democrats in voting to expand the Medicaid health insurance program for the poor.

  • Thomas Jordan has been hired by Northern Michigan NBC affiliate WPBN-TV / WTOM-TV Ch. 7/4 Traverse City/Cheboygan as its morning anchor. Prior to coming to Traverse City, Jordan was in Eugene, Ore.
