- Replacing: The analog TV translator of NBC and FOX affiliate WLUC-TV Ch. 6 that had been broadcasting on Channel 7 in Marquette; the station will next month power up a digital translator with more power that will be able to rebroadcast both the NBC and FOX programming offered on the main WLUC transmitter. Those receiving WLUC with an antenna will need to rescan their televisions and/or converter boxes once the new translator signs on.
- Expanding: The reach of Religious WSNL AM 600 Flint with the purchase of a construction permit for an FM translator on 106.5. Christian Broadcasting System is buying the planned translator from Educational Media Foundation for $60,000.
Early this year, Scripps purchased WMYD Detroit from Granite Broadcasting as a companion to its ABC affiliate WXYZ in the 11th largest market. This summer, it is putting the station to work. On June 16, Scripps launched a 10 p.m. newscast on WMYD, putting it in head-to-head competition with Fox O&O WJBK. "Fox has had 10 p.m. local news all to themselves," GM Ed Fernandez says. "We are providing people with choice." Next up is launching a two-hour WMYD morning show in August, which will basically pick up where WXYZ leaves off at 7 a.m. when Good Morning America takes over.
