Mid-West Family bringing sports talk to Michigan's Southwestern corner
Big changes are coming to the AM radio dial in the St. Joseph / Benton Harbor area starting August 25th WSJM AM 1400 commits to super-serve area sports fans, becoming Sports Radio 1400 WSJM. With the flip, all of WSJM's regular News-Talk programs, currently heard on both AM and on WSJM-FM 94.9, will be available only on the FM.
Operations Manager Jim Gifford and Sports Director Phil McDonald will oversee Sports Radio 1400 WSJM with McDonald guiding the programming effort. McDonald began his career with WSJM in 1985 and has served as an air personality on WSJM, WIRX, WCSY, and 98.3 The Coast, as well as serving as Sports Director.
Along with a strong emphasis on teams of local interest from the high school, college, and professional ranks, Sports Radio 1400 WSJM is teaming up with some of the biggest names in sports media: Fox Sports, Dan Patrick, Jay Mohr, and others to provide 24 hours of Sports Talk. And of course AM 1400 will remain the home of the Detroit Tigers, The Detroit Lions and The University Of Michigan here in Southwest Michigan.
Sports Radio 1400 WSJM will not only serve as the on-air destination for area sports fans, it will also be the on-line destination for extensive coverage of area teams and athletes at www.wsjmsports.com.
The Sports Radio 1400 WSJM Daily lineup as of August 25th: 6-9am- FOX Sports Daybreak with Andy Furman and Mike North; 9am-Noon- The Dan Patrick Show; Noon-3pm- Jay Mohr; 3-6pm: The Huge Show with Bill Simonson; 6-7pm: Big Ten Live; 7-10pm: JT The Brick; 10pm-Midnight: The Jason Smith Show.
Throughout the day, McDonald will present local features that include High School Sports Report, Michigan College and Southwest Michigan Pro Sports Reports, Sports Profiles and more.
WSJM AM 1400 went on the air in 1956 and was acquired by Mid-West Family Broadcasting in 1958.
- Hired: Husband and wife team Pat and Jenny (AJ) Clark as the new morning show hosts at Townsquare Media/Flint Adult Contemporary WCRZ-FM 107.9. The pair was last on the air in the Wausau - Stevens Point, Wisconsin market and started their new show on Cars 108 yesterday.
