Don Patrick, a longtime news anchor and news director at WWJ has passed away at the age of 75. Former Newsradio 950 morning anchor Joe Donovan shared the microphone with Patrick for 14 years -- Donovan was an admirer before he ever started working here.

CLEAR CHANNEL/CONNECTICUT Regional Program Manager MIKE WHEELER has been named PD at CUMULUS News-Talk WJR-A/DETROIT. The move is a homecoming for WHEELER, whose career started on the air in the MOTOR CITY at WNIC, WABX, WHYT, and WCZY. He since has served as PD at WZGC (DAVE FM)/ATLANTA and RVP of Programming with CLEAR CHANNEL in ATLANTA, ST. LOUIS, and TOLEDO.

A Kalamazoo-area native is returning to West Michigan as WOOD TV8's new meteorologist. Ellen Bacca, a graduate of Portage Northern High School, returns to West Michigan from North Carolina, where she most recently reported on Hurricane Arthur for WCTI-TV in the coastal city of New Bern.

The morning after attending the Eagles' concert at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Plainwell's Jim Higgs was tired, but smiling. Higgs is the longtime Kalamazoo DJ who in the mid-1970s helped the band achieve its first No. 1 hit with "Best of My Love."

Both are active players and will bring their on-the-field perspective to Detroit listeners. Wide receiver Golden Tate will appear every Tuesday during the season at 11:30 a.m. as part of The Ryan and Rico Show to give his view from the offensive side of the ball. Linebacker Stephen Tulloch will join The Matt Dery Show each Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. to give the perspective of the Lions defense.

Jackson Citizen-Patriot:

The legacy of Jackson Radio Works co-owner Susan Goldsen has reached hall of fame status. Goldsen, who owns the company with husband Bruce Goldsen, was recently enshrined in the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Mackinaw Island.
