Verlander checks the runner at first, gets the signal and delivers to the plate. There's a drive into ........................... If you live in the Mt. Pleasant or Alma area you already know that finding a Detroit Tigers game on the radio is crapshoot because the closest radio station that carries Tiger games is out of Saginaw and the signal is spotty at best. That will all change in 2014 though as Alma's 104.9 FM, WQBX, will air all 162 regular-season games as well as selected spring training games and hopefully some postseason games in mid-to-late October.

The Detroit Police Department has launched a formal investigation into an incident involving two police officers who scuffled with a television news reporter, Detroit Police Chief James Craig announced Wednesday.

Mayor Mike Duggan announced Tuesday the hiring of WJBK-TV reporter Alexis Wiley as his new press secretary. Duggan said residents have felt disconnected with their government and he wanted a spokesperson who will explain issues so average Detroiters can understand them. He has found that in Wiley, Duggan said.

  • Nominated: CBS Radio/Detroit morning personalities Dr. Don Carpenter, Rachael Hunter, Grunwald and Jason the 300lb. Cowboy along with afternoon personalities Chuck Edwards and Linda Lee for the Academy of Country Music award for Major Market On-Air Personality of the Year. All ACM winners will be revealed on April 5th.

Alexis Wiley has announced she is leaving Detroit FOX owned station WJBK. "Alexis has played an integral role in our station's vigorous reporting on what's making news in Detroit, particularly her 'Redefining Detroit' series which continues to get tremendous positive feedback from our viewers," WJBK vice president and news director Kevin Roseborough said in a statement.

  • Simulcasters WMRX-FM/WMPX-AM 97.7/1490 Midland have refreshed their sound, moving to a full-time Soft Adult Contemporary format as 'Sunny 97-7', dropping the longtime 'Unforgettable' moniker and shifting away from an Adult Standards sound.

Gregory Kelser, lead television analyst for the Detroit Pistons, quoted Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during his keynote speech at the eighth annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast Monday morning. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" Kelser said. "We owe it to (King's) legacy to reach out and help others."

Fine Tuning:

  • Clear Channel's previously silent WDTW AM 1310 Detroit returned to the air late last week with Special Temporary Authority from the FCC and has been simulcasting Clear Channel's Classic Rock WDTW-FM 106.7.

    The station is operating with 900 watts with a longwire antenna from the site near I-94 and Telegraph Rd where the station's towers stood until last winter when the were removed. The station's license is in the process of being transferred (donated) by Clear Channel to MMTC (Minority Media & Telecom Council) which finds new minority or non-profit broadcasters to take the licenses.

Charter cable customers in mid-Michigan are going to have the option of getting more than 175 high definition channels starting next week. Effective Tuesday, Charter is upgrading to all-digital in Mt. Pleasant, Alma, Clare and Harrison.

  • An HD2 update: Clear Channel/Detroit Urban WJLB-FM 97.9 changed the format of its HD2 channel from Classic Hip-Hop/Rap to Motown Oldies in the fall.
