Radio World:

A report of a ransomware demand on a small market radio broadcaster in Michigan has surfaced. The attack is similar to another one we reported on last week in Louisiana. Sanilac Broadcasting Co. in the state's Thumb area says three of its stations were attacked in early September. WMIC(AM), WTGV(FM) and WBGV(FM) suffered data server problems associated with the CryptoLocker virus, which encrypted their database of music files and resulted in dead air.

MACDONALD GARBER BROADCASTING/TRAVERSE CITY, MI has named 17-year vet radio and public address announcer CHRIS NICHOLAS PD of the three-station cluster and morning host on AC WLXV (MIX 96.7). The other stations he will program include Sports Talk WKAD (93.7 THE TICKET) and News/Talk WATT-A.

Detroit News:

Twenty-five years ago, carmakers decorated their auto exteriors with eye-catching wood trim. Today, the wood is on the inside, complementing flashy center consoles with seven-inch, digital touch screens. The car dashboard is being transformed and it's taking AM-FM radio with it. Just as it did newspapers and broadcast television, the Internet revolution is roiling the local broadcast landscape that has long held a monopoly on the car radio.

Motor City Radio Flashbacks:

It is with much sorrow and with great regret we wish to inform our friends here, George Griggs, curator of Motor City Radio Flashbacks, passed away peacefully this morning, October 28, 2014. He was 65. Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.

Inside Radio:

Today a five-acre mostly vacant site two blocks from the Michigan Capitol is an environmentally contaminated piece of land. But in the coming years the Lansing parcel will become a state of the art new home for the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. MAB's board has approved buying the property with preliminary plans for a 9,000 square foot headquarters.
