Radio World:

A report of a ransomware demand on a small market radio broadcaster in Michigan has surfaced. The attack is similar to another one we reported on last week in Louisiana. Sanilac Broadcasting Co. in the state's Thumb area says three of its stations were attacked in early September. WMIC(AM), WTGV(FM) and WBGV(FM) suffered data server problems associated with the CryptoLocker virus, which encrypted their database of music files and resulted in dead air.

Detroit News:

Twenty-five years ago, carmakers decorated their auto exteriors with eye-catching wood trim. Today, the wood is on the inside, complementing flashy center consoles with seven-inch, digital touch screens. The car dashboard is being transformed and it's taking AM-FM radio with it. Just as it did newspapers and broadcast television, the Internet revolution is roiling the local broadcast landscape that has long held a monopoly on the car radio.

At one o'clock this afternoon Traverse City's WLDR-FM 101.9, along with simulcast partners WBNZ-FM 92.3 Frankfort and WARD AM 750 Petoskey, switched formats to from Country to Adult Contemporary and rebranded itself as "101.9 The Bay". The change ends ten years in the country format.

"Country is a fantastic format", comments General Manager David Barr, "Unfortunately it's the kind of music that doesn't have mass appeal in offices and retail stores. Since we dropped AC a decade ago, there has been a hole in Traverse City for this type of music", said Barr. "We are excited to be a part of your office again".

WLDR has one of the strongest radio signals in Northern Michigan's largest city. The tower is located on radio hill just west of town. During 2015, WLDR will celebrate 50-years of service on the air.

WJMN-TV Ch. 3 Escanaba:

Some of our regular viewers are not able to watch programming on WJMN this evening. The issue is on our end and not a problem with your satellite or cable provider. Our over-the-air transmission is interrupted due to technical difficulties. We've had on-going interruptions for the last couple of days. The WJMN engineering department is working around the clock to repair the damage to our transmitter to get the CBS and Local 3 programming back on the air. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working diligently to resolve the issue.
