Notes/History:
- Mid-1990s: WATZ changes format to news/talk, ending simulcast with WATZ-FM.
- 1988: WATZ-FM changes format to country and move to FM 99.3. WATZ and WATZ-FM begin simulcasting.
- Late 1960s: Format of WATZ AM is still full service but features primarily country music when news/talk/sports programming isn't airing. Sister station WATZ-FM launches and features adult contemporary format.
- 11/1946: On air, owner is Les Biederman. Station is part of Paul Bunyan Network of stations in northern Michigan that included WTCM Traverse City, WMBN Petoskey, WATT Cadillac, and WATC Gaylord. Format is full service and for many years was Alpena's only radio station.
