Notes/History:
- 10/17/1988: Station signs on under owner Ed Sackley with a Classic Rock format.
From Mr. Sackley: "The WRKR call sign was in Kenosha, Wisconsin for many years. Its history there was 'Racine Kenosha Radio' (RKR). Our comparative hearing battle raged for 13 years and we couldn't file for call letters until the decision neared finality. We learned that WRKR was going to change calls and knew they were a hot property. We coordinated their filing of their new calls with our filing for theirs and our law firm's clerk was right behind them in line at the FCC, so it was automatic based on date and time stamp. For us, it was a natural "Rock and Roll" as we were signing on as a classic rock station. It was my dad, one of our shareholders, who told us they stood for "We Really Know Rock" because we were all former college radio guys from a commercial college rock station in Urbana, IL (WPGU 107.1) who had labored for 13 years to put this puppy on the air. So that's the 'Rest of the Story'. P.S.: Our second morning guy, Mike McKelly, who started in 1990 and is still going strong, is a native of Kenosha and worked for both of the WRKRs!
