  • 6/2015: Iron River Community Broadcasting purchases station from Heartland Communications.
  • 7/2010: Format change from Adult Standards to Talk as 'Freedom Talk 1230'. The station had previously changed its long time call sign from WIKB to WFER.
  • 5/2006: AM 1230 evolves into more of an Adult Standards format.
  • 12/2005: WIKB-FM 99.1 changes from "Solid Gold" Oldies to Adult Contemporary as "The Breeze"; AM 1230 continues with Oldies format.


  • 2004: Station is sold, along with WIKB-FM 99.1, for $1.25 million by Northland Advertising to Heartland Communications. Gene Halker, the owner of Northland, will end 50 years of radio ownership once the deal is approved by the FCC and then closed.
  • Fall 1981: WIKB-FM begins operations on 99.1.
  • 1/1965: Northland Advertising purchases WIKB.
  • 11/15/1949: WIKB first signs on and is licensed to Iron Mountain. The station is owned by a group of local businessmen.
